Sea Foam
‘Sea Foam’ symbolises the fertility of The North Channel; rich in nutrients, wildlife, beauty, history, trade and connection of the two lands, Ireland and Scotland. I am concerned with beauty, function, symbolism and try to offer a tangible sense of connection through imagery and the tactile nature of wool pile rug textile. Sea Foam whipped up by the weather and the tides is a beautiful transient phenomena brought to light on the surface of the sea. However, Sea Foam can also carry toxins lifted from great depths like the Beaufort Trench. No matter the climate Northern Ireland and Western Scotland have always been neighbours, will always be neighbours. May any toxins be blown away from our shores.
If all the world and love were young,
And truth on every shepherd’s tongue,
These pretty pleasures might me move
To live with thee and by thy love.
Sir Walter Raleigh
